Portia Kuzivakwashe Mafukidze from Zimbabwe is currently studying towards a Master’s degree in Mathematics (Statistics Option) at PAU Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI) in Kenya, funded by the Pan African Union scholarship. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Operations Research and Statistics from the National University of Science and Technology in Zimbabwe.
Portia is the founder of a non-profit organization called Health and Poverty Reduction Services Zimbabwe (HPS Zimbabwe). HPS Zimbabwe supports research in the field of development and social welfare, offers training programmes and establishes information and resource centres to assist Zimbabwean youth to reach their goals and overcome the hurdles on their way.
Her passion for helping the youth is exactly what drove her to become an Africademics Scholarship Ambassador as well. In 10 years’ time, Portia sees herself running a well-established successful non-profit organization that specializes in assisting vulnerable youth through mentorship and training.
Welcome to the Africademics Ambassador Programme, Portia!
The Scholarship Ambassador Programme
Through the Scholarship Ambassador Programme Africademics trains volunteers from across Africa to become scholarship advisors and mentors. Ambassadors complete a 4-month online course with virtual lectures, case studies and additional activities. Once they have successfully graduated, our Scholarship Ambassadors offer personal support, advice and mentorship for scholarship seekers and applicants in and from Africa.
Our 2022 Ambassador cohort started their training in April 2022 and we are thrilled to have over 90 students and scholars from across the African continent on board this year. In 2021, we welcomed our first cohort of 30 Scholarship Ambassadors who completed their training in November 2021. They now offer free scholarship consultations, mentorship and application assistance for scholarship seekers in and from Africa on a regular basis.
