Grace Leah Akinyi from Kenya is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Nairobi’s Department of Computing and Informatics. She is conducting research on the use of Artificial Intelligence for Education in supporting self-regulated learning strategies of students in an e-learning environment. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Technology at Maseno University and obtained her MSc. Degree in Information Technology Management from the University of Nairobi in Kenya.
Grace’s passion for research in Artificial Intelligence and E-Learning won her the Professional Development Awardee Scholarship in Artificial Intelligence for Development (AI4D) at the International Development Research Centre (IDRC/SIDA). Grace Leah now serves as a Tutorial Fellow at the Technical University of Kenya’s School of Computer Technology, engaging in teaching-learning, co-ordinating departmental examinations, conducting research, mentoring students, serving the community, and publishing research articles.
She decided to join the Africademics Scholarship Ambassador Programme because she believes it is a logical next step and a unique opportunity for her to enhance her mentorship skills, gain a fresh perspective on supporting students’ scholarship applications, and enhance her professional goals and serve the community.
An interesting fact about Grace Leah is that she did not have to buy any mathematics textbooks for high school as she won them all as prizes for the best mathematics student award that she got every year. She also uses those same textbooks today to teach her students.
Welcome to the Africademics Scholarship Ambassador Programme, Grace!
The Scholarship Ambassador Programme
Through the Scholarship Ambassador Programme Africademics trains volunteers from across Africa to become scholarship advisors and mentors. Ambassadors complete a 4-month online course with virtual lectures, case studies and additional activities. Once they have successfully graduated, our Scholarship Ambassadors offer personal support, advice and mentorship for scholarship seekers and applicants in and from Africa.
Our 2022 Ambassador cohort started their training in April 2022 and we are thrilled to have over 90 students and scholars from across the African continent on board this year. In 2021, we welcomed our first cohort of 30 Scholarship Ambassadors who completed their training in November 2021. They now offer free scholarship consultations, mentorship and application assistance for scholarship seekers in and from Africa on a regular basis.
Meet our team of Scholarship Ambassadors here and let us know via our contact form if you would like to book a personal consultation with one of them!
