The German Social Engagement Award

The ‚Deutsche Engagementpreis‘ is Germany’s most important award for social projects and volunteer initiatives. It recognises and supports social initiatives and individuals who are active in their communities, as well as organizations and funders who award prizes in this field. There are approximately 700 different competitions and awards for volunteering and social initiatives in Germany. Each of these competitions can nominate their winners for the German Social Engagement Award. The aim of this ‚umbrella award‘ is to strengthen the recognition of social initiatives in Germany and to encourage more individuals to engage in volunteer work.

The award was launched in 2009 and is supported by the Public Benefit Alliance, an association of  umbrella organizations and independent private sector partners, as well as experts and academics in Germany. Financing for the award is provided by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, the German TV Lottery, and the Deutsche Bahn Foundation.
