Namibia2Germany 2026 Applications are open!

We are excited to launch a special edition of our Namibia2Germany programme: Our Electrical Technicial Programme for German-speaking Namibians based in Swakopmund!

What is the programme all about?

This special edition of the Namibia2Germany programme offers comprehensive support for German-speaking Namibian youth who want to pursue an ‘Ausbildung’ (dual vocational training) as an Electrical Technician in Germany. The programme takes place over the course of one year and prepares participants for their 3-year ‘Ausbildung’, including a placement with a German company. Participants who successfully complete our 1-year preparation programme are placed with a German company for their ‘Ausbildung’ and receive comprehensive assistance with their visa application and their relocation to Germany.

The Namibia2Germany programme has been running since 2023 and has successfully placed Namibian participants in ‘Ausbildung’ programmes in nursing, the skilled trades and crafts sector, electrical engineering, and the hospitality industry. For more information about the programme, as well as the German ‘Ausbildung’ system, please watch our series of info videos, which can be accessed via this link.

Namibia2Germany is offered by Africademics, a Germany-based non-profit organization, founded in 2019. In 2020, Africademics founder Lena Gronbach was awarded the prestigious ‘weitergeben – Social Engagement’ award by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation. Africademics also made it to the finals of the 2020/21 round of the ‘startsocial’ initiative under the patronage of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Our biggest and most recent recognition was the award of the ‘Deutscher Engagementpreis‘, Germany’s most prestigious award for social projects and initiatives.

When and how will the programme take place?

The programme is delivered in a hybrid format over the course of one year, combining online classes with regular in-person workshops and meetings in Namibia. For our special Electrical Technicial Programme, participants will also complete a 3-month basic electrical training programme through our partner institution in Swakopmund. The programme is divided into three separate phases, as outlined below.

Phase 1: The first four months of the course (August – November 2026) consist in bi-weekly online workshops, in combination with in-person practice sessions in Swakopmund every other week. In these sessions we cover in-depth information about the German dual training system and the profession of an Electrical Technician, we help you create your professional German CV and application documents, you acquire industry-specific German language skills, we teach you about workplace etiquette and everyday life in Germany, and much more.

Phase 2: Participants who have successfully completed the first phase of the programme and have been selected for phase two will complete a 3-month theoretical and practical training in the basics of electrical engineering. This part of the programme will take place in Swakopmund, from February to April 2027, and will be delivered by our partner company PTN Perktechnics.

Phase 3: Following the successful completion of the practical training in Swakopmund, participants who have excelled in their training will be offered ‘Ausbildung’ placements with our German partner companies. Successfully placed candidates will receive comprehensive assistance with their visa application, and will be prepared for their relocation to Germany. Travel to Germany takes place in mid-July 2027, to allow participants to settle in prior to the start of their ‘Ausbildung’ on 01 August 2027.

How much does it cost?

The monthly fee for the 1-year Namibia2Germany preparation programme is EUR 60 (NAD 1,200) per month. This covers the cost of the weekly in-person and online session, personal support with your CV and other application documents, industry-specific language practice, the 3-month basic electrical engineering training in Swakopmund, placement with a German company for your ‘Ausbildung’, assistance with your visa application and relocation, as well as full personal support throughout the 1-year preparation programme.

Once you have started your ‘Ausbildung’ in Germany, you will receive a salary from your German company for the full duration of your 3-year training. The salary covers your basic living cost and accommodation in Germany, and you can earn additional income through part-time work, e.g. on weekends or during your holidays. Accommodation in Germany will be provided by the hosting companies.
