Welcome to our new Africademics Intern!

We are excited to welcome our second Positive Psychology intern to the Africademics team! Bernice will be supporting us in various capacities for the next four months. Among other things, she will create and deliver a number of workshops and resources for our Ambassadors and community members and offer practical support through our new Positive Psychology Support Sessions.

“Hi everyone! I am Bernice, a Positive Psychology Master’s student from the Netherlands. As the newest member of the Africademics team, I am here to strengthen the Positive Psychology Department, alongside Laura.

By nature, I am very excitable and open to new experiences. I love meeting new people and learning from them. In accordance to that, my character strengths are curiosity, love of learning, appreciation of beauty and excellence, social intelligence and kindness. With these as my top 5 strengths, I hope to help you get the most out of your human experience.

My interest lies in how we function as humans and how we flourish in our own unique ways. I believe that if we use our (character) strengths and find ways to successfully cope with our challenges, we can use our strengths, talents and skills to create a better, happier, more socially vibrant world.

Next to my interest in Positive Psychology I love to express myself through lyrics and melodies. Therefore, I spend a lot of time singing and learning about making and performing music. At this moment, I am a singer in the acoustic cover band Induo in the Netherlands, and I write songs under my artist names BEARR. and CYON. If you are interested you can find my music on Spotify, Apple music and all other streaming platforms since last year- I am very proud of this!

So, combining my two interests, I think that exploring ourselves and expressing who we are gives life meaning. And I encourage each and every one of you (if you agree with me), to find a balance in what you love doing, what you are trained to do and have a great time doing so! I aim to serve the Africademics community to the best of my abilities and I am looking forward to meeting you, hearing your stories and helping you thrive even further.”

Welcome to the team, Bernice!
