The well-being of students, graduates and early career researchers has received some much-needed attention in the past few years. It is no secret that this stage of your life can be exciting, empowering and fun, but also overwhelming and difficult at times. Especially as an international student, you might face additional challenges such as homesickness, loneliness, culture shock, language barriers, and financial stress, just to name a few. Starting in March 2023, we will offer free one-on-one Positive Psychology coaching sessions!
Who are the Positive Psychology coaching sessions for?
Our new Positive Psychology coaching sessions are open to all current and past Africademics Scholarship Ambassadors and Scholarship Mentees.
What is the aim of these sessions?
The aim of this new support structure is to improve your well-being and resilience by giving you the space and positive psychology tools to deal with challenges such as stress, homesickness, loneliness, culture shock, and other challenges you may be experiencing.
When and how will the sessions take place?
The sessions will be held virtually. A maximum of three 30–45 minute sessions will be made available per person. The three sessions will usually be spread out over one or several months and can be held either in the early morning or early evening to accommodate working hours. During these sessions, your Africademics Positive Psychology Coach will assist you in identifying your key challenge(s), and then explore and address them together with you, within a positive psychology framework and using a proactive working alliance approach.
How can I book a session?
New session slots will be made available every second week using the Google Calendar App. The booking link will be shared with eligible Africademics Scholarship Ambassadors and Mentees via email, and you will be able to book on a first come first serve basis. Please note that there will be limited availability at the beginning, as we are just starting out with this new project and are still exploring to make it work best for everyone.
