Africademics was selected to participate in the 2022 round of the ‘100xDigital’ programme!
As we reach the end of the programme, we look back on the past few months, reflect on our achievements and progress, and look forward to launching the exciting project we have been working on, supported by the German Foundation for Engagement and Volunteering (Deutsche Stiftung für Engagement und Ehrenamt).
What is ‘100xDigital’?
‘100xDigital’ is a funding and support programme for social initiatives and projects in Germany. It supports digitization in civil society and volunteer organizations and is administered by the Deutsche Stiftung für Engagement und Ehrenamt (DSEE). The foundation was established in 2020 and is the first and only national coordinating agency for non-profit and volunteer initiatives in Germany. It is funded by various government ministries and aims to strengthen non-profit organizations, volunteer networks and social projects across the country.
The ‘100xDigital’ programme has been running for two years and focuses on supporting and enabling digital change and digitization in the social, volunteer and non-profit sector. Each year 100 initiatives are selected for the programme and receive funding, coaching and numerous other forms of support over a period of six months. The programme has already supported 200 projects and we are proud to be part of this year’s cohort! For more information about the programme, visit their website.
Our project: The Africademics Scholarship MOOC
Since our foundation in 2019, we have been supporting scholarship seekers and applications from across the African continent by sharing relevant scholarship information on a daily basis. In addition, we offer personal assistance and mentoring through our Scholarship Ambassador Programme. However, the fact that our personal support structure relies on the availability of our volunteers has limited our impact in terms of the number of scholarship seekers we have been able to assist thus far. And we need to change this!
This is why we decided to launch our own online learning platform, and to create our very own Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for you. Our Africademics Scholarship MOOC will provide you with the knowledge and tools to kick-start your scholarship search and to prepare your scholarship application. In five different modules we will cover various aspects of the scholarship search and application process, including:
- Types of Scholarships and Funding Programmes
- Sources of Scholarship Information
- The Application Process and Timeline
- Preparing your Application Documents
- Tips and Tricks for Studying Abroad
The MOOC will be made available on our new online learning platform which is currently being developed. The course will be available free of charge, and to anyone in any part of the world. Should you still need additional support or advice after having completed the course, you will of course still be able to apply for personal mentoring from one of our Scholarship Ambassadors. We are incredibly excited to launch our new platform and are planning to add additional content about specific scholarships, fellowships, countries, universities, as well as application advice from scholarship alumni, once the initial course is up and running.
