Marizvikuru Manjoro-Mwale from Zimbabwe is an Animal Scientist and Senior Lecturer at the Institute for Rural Development (IRD) at the University of Venda (UNIVEN) in South Africa. She holds a PhD in Animal Science from the University of Fort Hare and a Master’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Zimbabwe.
Marizvikuru has been awarded two Postdoctoral Fellowships with UNIVEN and North-West University, South Africa. She is a member of various professional bodies, including the International Association for Community Development, the South African Society for Animal Science, and the Society for Medicinal Plants and Natural Products. Marizvikuru is also a Professional Natural Scientist of the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions.
She is a South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS) alumna, was a SAYAS co-chair, and serves on the Steering Committee of the Scientific Advisory Group on Emergencies (SAGE), which operates under the auspices of the Academy of Sciences of South Africa (ASSAf) and SAYAS. In addition, Marizvikuru is a member of the Organization of Women in Science in the Developing World (OWSD), and serves in the Steering Committee of the Northern Region Research Ethics and Integrity Community of Practice in Southern Africa.
Marizvikuru joined the Africademics Scholarship Ambassador Programme because she aspires to make a difference in peers, students, and society at large and to be a role model for young scientists and students. She feels that she was privileged to be under good supervision and mentorship and that it is time for her to give back what she has gained.
In 10 years’ time she aims to have established research groups in her discipline, built international linkages and partnerships, become an internationally recognised and acclaimed researcher and would have significantly contributed to human capacity development. Something people might not know about Marizvikuru is that she is a big football and rugby fan.
Welcome to the Africademics Ambassador Programme, Marizvikuru!
The Scholarship Ambassador Programme
Through the Scholarship Ambassador Programme Africademics trains volunteers from across Africa to become scholarship advisors and mentors. Ambassadors complete a 4-month online course with virtual lectures, case studies and additional activities. Once they have successfully graduated, our Scholarship Ambassadors offer personal support, advice and mentorship for scholarship seekers and applicants in and from Africa.
Our 2022 Ambassador cohort started their training in April 2022 and we are thrilled to have over 90 students and scholars from across the African continent on board this year. In 2021, we welcomed our first cohort of 30 Scholarship Ambassadors who completed their training in November 2021. They now offer free scholarship consultations, mentorship and application assistance for scholarship seekers in and from Africa on a regular basis.
Meet our team of Scholarship Ambassadors here and let us know via our contact form if you would like to book a personal consultation with one of them!
