Launching: Africademics / ADUN Working Group!

By Lena Gronbach

We are excited to announce our new partnership with the African Digital University Network (ADUN) and the launch of our joint Working Group!

To reach a wider audience with scholarship information and application support, Africademics is currently developing a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). The project is funded by the ‘100xDigital‘ programme for social initiatives, offered by the Deutsche Stiftung für Engagement und Ehrenamt. To evaluate and further develop this MOOC, Africademics has partnered with the ADUN in the form of a joint Working Group.

About the ADUN

The African Digital University Network aims to contribute to the field of African educational technology theory and practices through scholarship, innovation and networking. The network consists mainly of African higher education scholars as well as other practitioners who are interested in the various facets of technology integration in the HE curriculum.

The ADUN engages with the nature of the contemporary university with an emphasis on the digital aspects of teaching and learning. It aims to contribute to the field of African educational technology theory and practices through scholarship and innovation.

One of the many ways to expand this network and fulfil these goals is to form partnerships and working groups with other role players. One such Working Group has recently been created in collaboration with Africademics with whom ADUN shares the vision to increase access to higher education for students, graduates and early career researchers in and from Africa.

Call for Participants

We are inviting registered ADUN members who have experience, expertise and/or a keen interest in one or more of the following aspects to join this collaborative endeavor:

  • Assist in reaching out to students and scholars who might benefit from the course
  • Assess the impact of the course on participants (e.g. as a research study)
  • Assist in quality assurance of the course once it is up and running, providing guidance to improve or expand on what has been created
  • Partake in a series of podcasts and/or interviews (planned for early 2023) about different aspects of scholarships and funding

The Working Group will have its first (virtual) meeting in October and will meet on an as-needed basis thereafter. The launch of the MOOC is planned for November 2022, with additional modules or additional content for existing modules to be developed and added on an on-going basis. Working Group members should be able to commit for an initial period of 3 months.

Participation in the Working Group is only open to registered ADUN members. Please visit their website to sign up, or contact the ADUN coordinator (email) for more information on how to become a member.
