Meet our Ambassador: Thabang Pinyane

Thabang Pinyane from Lesotho is currently a tutor at the Girls Coding Academy, where she trains kids from the age of 5 in Coding, Robotics and 3D Printing. She holds a BSc Honours Degree in Computing, specialising in Networking and Infrastructure Management, from Botho University in Botswana.

Thabang has a lot of experience with research funding as she was an Application Reader for the Mandela Washington Fellowship, and she is also a Grant Writer and Director at Stovix Charity Foundation.

Thabang was motivated to join the Africademics Scholarship Ambassador Programme because she would like to use her experiences to assist people from her community to secure scholarships, as well as use her newly gained knowledge to apply for funding opportunities herself.

In 10 years’ time, Thabang aims to hold a PhD in Computing and run her own company that will be selling networking-related devices in Lesotho, as well as be an inspiration to young girls from rural areas. Something people might not know about Thabang is that she is shy when you first meet her, but she also laughs a lot.

Welcome to the Africademics Ambassador Programme, Thabang!

The Scholarship Ambassador Programme

Through the Scholarship Ambassador Programme Africademics trains volunteers from across Africa to become scholarship advisors and mentors. Ambassadors complete a 4-month online course with virtual lectures, case studies and additional activities. Once they have successfully graduated, our Scholarship Ambassadors offer personal support, advice and mentorship for scholarship seekers and applicants in and from Africa.

Our 2022 Ambassador cohort started their training in April 2022 and we are thrilled to have over 90 students and scholars from across the African continent on board this year. In 2021, we welcomed our first cohort of 30 Scholarship Ambassadors who completed their training in November 2021. They now offer free scholarship consultations, mentorship and application assistance for scholarship seekers in and from Africa on a regular basis.

Meet our team of Scholarship Ambassadors here and let us know via our contact form if you would like to book a personal consultation with one of them!
