Mina Okuru from Ghana works as a Communications Manager for the Ghanaian-German Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration, implemented by GIZ Ghana, as well as Media Program Manager for the Africa Matters Initiative. She is also the producer and host of the Migration and Employment podcast, the first and only podcast in Ghana dedicated to educating young potential migrants on the dangers of irregular migration and highlighting the opportunities in the country.
Mina holds a Master’s degree in International Public Relations and Global Communications Management from Cardiff University in the United Kingdom. She has been the recipient of a Chevening Scholarship, funded by the British Government, and she is a Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) RLC West Africa fellow.
Mina joined the Africademics Scholarship Ambassador Programme because she would like to bring the knowledge that she has gained, as well as her expertise as a scholarship recipient, to the Africademics platform, and expand her reach through the Africademics network.
In 10 years’ time, Mina aims to run her own consulting firm. An interesting fact about Mina is that she comes across as an unassuming person and most of the time people get pleasantly surprised at what she can achieve.
Welcome to the Africademics Ambassador Programme, Mina!
The Scholarship Ambassador Programme
Through the Scholarship Ambassador Programme Africademics trains volunteers from across Africa to become scholarship advisors and mentors. Ambassadors complete a 4-month online course with virtual lectures, case studies and additional activities. Once they have successfully graduated, our Scholarship Ambassadors offer personal support, advice and mentorship for scholarship seekers and applicants in and from Africa.
Our 2022 Ambassador cohort started their training in April 2022 and we are thrilled to have over 90 students and scholars from across the African continent on board this year. In 2021, we welcomed our first cohort of 30 Scholarship Ambassadors who completed their training in November 2021. They now offer free scholarship consultations, mentorship and application assistance for scholarship seekers in and from Africa on a regular basis.
Meet our team of Scholarship Ambassadors here and let us know via our contact form if you would like to book a personal consultation with one of them!
