Keshnee Reega from Mauritius is an M.Phil./PhD student in the field of Food Microbiology at the Department of Agricultural and Food Science of the University of Mauritius, from which she previously received a B.Sc. in Microbiology.
Keshnee has worked as Graduate Teaching Assistant for a B.Sc. Food Science and Technology programme and as Research Assistant / Trainee Project Assistant for a research project funded by the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council.
She has also been awarded the Mauritian Higher Education Commission Full-Time Postgraduate Scholarship, the International Association for Food Protection 2021 Student Travel Scholarship, and the Commonwealth of Learning – Skills for Work Scholarship.
Keshnee decided to join the Africademics Scholarship Ambassador Programme because she herself faced financial challenges when she started her postgraduate studies but received the needed mentorship on how to achieve financial independence while being a full-time student. She therefore wishes to do the same for others and give back to her peers who aspire to have a more enriching and fulfilling academic life.
In 10 years’ time, Keshnee would like to continue researching in her field of predilection (Food Safety) or be part of an editorial team for manuscript proofreading services. Something people might not know about Keshnee is that she is an active MusixMatch curator.
Welcome to the Africademics Ambassador Programme, Keshnee!
The Scholarship Ambassador Programme
Through the Scholarship Ambassador Programme Africademics trains volunteers from across Africa to become scholarship advisors and mentors. Ambassadors complete a 4-month online course with virtual lectures, case studies and additional activities. Once they have successfully graduated, our Scholarship Ambassadors offer personal support, advice and mentorship for scholarship seekers and applicants in and from Africa.
Our 2022 Ambassador cohort started their training in April 2022 and we are thrilled to have over 90 students and scholars from across the African continent on board this year. In 2021, we welcomed our first cohort of 30 Scholarship Ambassadors who completed their training in November 2021. They now offer free scholarship consultations, mentorship and application assistance for scholarship seekers in and from Africa on a regular basis.
Meet our team of Scholarship Ambassadors here and let us know via our contact form if you would like to book a personal consultation with one of them!
