Edward Korveh from Ghana is pursuing a PhD in Mathematics at the University of Ghana on a DAAD scholarship, and he is currently a visiting researcher at the Mathematical Institute of Brandenburg University of Technology in Cottbus-Senftenberg, Germany.
His research focuses on Stochastic Optimal Control applied in finance. In particular, he works on problems related to finding optimal investment strategies in markets that exhibit contagion phenomena. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, whereafter he did his National Service as a Teaching Assistant from at the All Nations University College in Koforidua, Ghana.
He subsequently received a scholarship from AIMS-NEI to pursue an MSc in Mathematical Sciences at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Ghana, followed by an Erasmus Mundus scholarship to pursue an MSc in Complex Systems Science at two European Universities: the University of Warwick in the UK, and Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. After completing his studies in Europe, he returned to the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Kigali, Rwanda, on a tutoring fellowship.
Edward decided to become an Africademics Scholarship Ambassador because he has a lot of experience with scholarships, and has assisted many in their quests for scholarships already. He believes that the Africademics training and platforms will provide him with even more knowledge and avenues through which he can assist others.
In 10 years’ time, Edward would like to become a renowned academic and researcher in Financial Mathematics, and sees himself at the top of his career, as one of the best in the area, impacting industrial and governmental decisions when it comes to investment policies and financing.
Welcome to the Africademics Ambassador Programme, Edward!
The Scholarship Ambassador Programme
Through the Scholarship Ambassador Programme Africademics trains volunteers from across Africa to become scholarship advisors and mentors. Ambassadors complete a 4-month online course with virtual lectures, case studies and additional activities. Once they have successfully graduated, our Scholarship Ambassadors offer personal support, advice and mentorship for scholarship seekers and applicants in and from Africa.
Our 2022 Ambassador cohort started their training in April 2022 and we are thrilled to have over 90 students and scholars from across the African continent on board this year. In 2021, we welcomed our first cohort of 30 Scholarship Ambassadors who completed their training in November 2021. They now offer free scholarship consultations, mentorship and application assistance for scholarship seekers in and from Africa on a regular basis.
Meet our team of Scholarship Ambassadors here and let us know via our contact form if you would like to book a personal consultation with one of them!
