Please tell us a bit about yourself!
I am enthusiastic, hardworking, welcoming and patient person. I like teamwork and I adapt easily to any environment. In my free time I enjoy listening to music and reading. In 10 years’ time I see myself as an established researcher in medicinal chemistry and organic chemistry, with a good number of trained researchers in my team, as well as mentees who are becoming mentors themselves.
Which scholarships or fellowships have you received?
I was selected as a Junior Accompanying Scientist of Dr Ntiekang for a 6-month scientific journey to Germany in 2019, sponsored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. I also served as an Ambassador for the Ambassador’s Girls Scholarship Programme at the University of Buea, Cameroon, from 2002 to 2004.
How did you experience the Africademics Scholarship Ambassador Programme?
I applied for the Scholarship Ambassador Programme because volunteering and mentoring are among my career goals and Africademics has given me the opportunity to get the skills that enable me to become fit for mentoring.
My personal highlight of the Ambassador training programme was the Positive Psychology workshop, especially the modules on self-compassion and stress management.
As a scholarship mentor, I learnt a lot on how I should look for scholarships and how to read and understand the selection criteria. My mentee, a student from Zimbabwe, and I are working on the search for a scholarship for a PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences. We have seen many calls and are currently selecting those that he fulfils his criteria.
Why would you recommend the Scholarship Ambassador Programme to others?
I have learnt a lot, especially on my self confidence! I am more focused now and have much more confidence than before.
