Please tell us a bit about yourself!
I am a leader and an academic who enjoys helping others, especially unprivileged students from rural areas. My main goal for the next few years is to complete my PhD and become a researcher in my home country.
What is your personal experience with scholarships and fellowships?
I am currently a recipient of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Sur-Place Scholarship, which funds Ethiopians who are enrolled are pursuing postgraduate studies at universities in Ethiopia and who show excellence in their academic performance and in society.
How did you experience the Africademics Scholarship Ambassador Programme?
I applied for the programme because I know the many challenges scholarship seekers and applicants are facing. I learned many things during the programme. The founder is an exemplary women who impacted and inspired me a lot.
What was one of the highlights of the programme for you?
Before selecting my Scholarship Mentee through the Africademics programme, I came across a young graduate student in Ethiopia who was seeking employment. He shared his educational background and his GPA, which was an impressive 3.85 out of 4.00. I commended him and suggested that he apply for a scholarship. He looked at me with a puzzled expression and asked, ‘Scholarship? Is that something like the DV Lottery?’ I observed the same in my mentorship journey and realized that many students don’t even know about available scholarship opportunities. I am very happy that one of my mentees is close to obtaining a scholarship and she is working hard towards her goal.
Why would you recommend the Scholarship Ambassador Programme to others?
I strongly encourage anyone to join if they have a passion to help others. It is also a great opportunity to connect with like-minded people!
