Nelly Adjoa Sakyi-Hagan from Ghana is a Physics lecturer and researcher at the University of Education in Winneba, Ghana, where she is also pursuing her PhD in Science Education. She received an Erasmus Global scholarship to participate in a 3-month PhD exchange at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland.
Nelly was motivated to join the Africademics Scholarship Ambassador Programme because she has been an educator for most of her life and it is something she really enjoys doing. Being an Africademics Scholarship Ambassador will enable her to carry out her passion and zeal from a different perspective. She is also always excited about doing new things and Africademics such an opportunity for her.
In 10 years, Nelly sees herself becoming a professor in her field of study and an academic giant to whom young people, especially females, will look up to and be motivated to take the path she led. She also sees her name becoming a household name in the field of Science Education, Gender, and STEM Education.
Something people might not know about Nelly is that even though from afar she appears intimidating to many, she is a very friendly, affable and easy-going person. She also likes dancing a lot.
Welcome to the Africademics Ambassador Programme, Nelly!
The Scholarship Ambassador Programme
Through the Scholarship Ambassador Programme Africademics trains volunteers from across Africa to become scholarship advisors and mentors. Ambassadors complete a 4-month online course with virtual lectures, case studies and additional activities. Once they have successfully graduated, our Scholarship Ambassadors offer personal support, advice and mentorship for scholarship seekers and applicants in and from Africa.
Our 2022 Ambassador cohort started their training in April 2022 and we are thrilled to have over 90 students and scholars from across the African continent on board this year. In 2021, we welcomed our first cohort of 30 Scholarship Ambassadors who completed their training in November 2021. They now offer free scholarship consultations, mentorship and application assistance for scholarship seekers in and from Africa on a regular basis.
Meet our team of Scholarship Ambassadors here and let us know via our contact form if you would like to book a personal consultation with one of them!
