Applications will be open until 25 July 2023. In order to apply for the programme, you will first need to pre-register via this link. Once you have successfully pre-registered, you will receive detailed instructions on how to submit your formal application for our Scholarship Mentoring Programme.
NB: Please read the ‘Important to know’ section below before you apply for the programme!
How does the programme work?
Our Scholarship Mentoring Programme offers personal guidance and support for scholarship seekers and applicants in and from Africa. Scholarship Mentees will be matched with one of our Scholarship Ambassadors, who will then mentor them for a period of at least 3 months.
Communication and meetings with your Scholarship Ambassador will take place online, so please note that you will need to have regular and stable internet access in order to participate in our programme. You will also be required to create a profile on our online learning and community platform, and to complete a preparatory online course in order to qualify as a Scholarship Mentee.
Please note that participation in our Scholarship Mentoring Programme does not guarantee you a scholarship! The purpose of the programme is to assist you in finding the right scholarship or fellowship, and to offer support and feedback on your scholarship application.
Please also keep in mind that Africademics does not award scholarships or funding – our aim is to offer support and information for scholarship seekers and applicants. We have no influence on the award of a particular scholarship or fellowship – we can merely advise you on how to find a suitable scholarship, and to prepare a strong scholarship application.
Last but not least, please remember that our Scholarship Ambassadors are volunteers who offer their services for free and in their spare time. So please be considerate and respectful of the support they provide, and please honour their commitment by being a pro-active participant in our programme!
What are the requirements to participate?
You need to meet the following requirements to apply for our Scholarship Mentoring Programme:
- You are a citizen of an African country
- You are a student or a prospective student in need of a scholarship or fellowship
- You are at least 18 years old
- You have stable and regular internet access
- You are willing to commit to the programme for a period of at least 3 months
- You commit to dedicating approximately 5-10 hours per week to the programme. This includes your own research on available scholarships, as well as working on your application documents
- You understand that you will be expected to be pro-active, and that your mentor will NOT do the hard work for you. It will be your responsibility to do your own scholarship search, and to prepare your scholarship application(s).
How can I apply?
To apply for our Africademics Scholarship Mentoring Programme, simply pre-register via this online form. You will then receive an email with detailed instructions on how to complete the application process for our programme.
As part of your application, you will need to create a free user account on our online learning and community platform, which will be used to match prospective Scholarship Mentees with suitable Scholarship Ambassadors. You will also be required to complete a short preparatory online course on our platform before you can start with the mentoring programme.
NB: Please note that the number of applications we receive is usually much higher than the number of Scholarship Ambassadors who are available for consultations and mentoring. It is therefore important to keep in mind that signing up for the programme and completing the application process does not guarantee you a place in this year’s programme. As much as we would love to support each and every applicant, our Ambassadors offer support on a voluntary basis, and the number of places available is therefore limited.
