Upenyu Naume Mupfiga from Zimbabwe is a lecturer and researcher in Geo-Information and Earth Observation Science at Midlands State University in Zimbabwe. She is currently also pursuing her PhD at the University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa.
Upenyu received an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s scholarship that enabled her to pursue a joint Master’s programme at the University of Southampton (UK), Lund University (Sweden), University of Warsaw (Poland) and the University of Twente in the Netherlands.
Having benefited from the Erasmus Mundus mobility scholarship, Upenyu would like to support others in accessing similar scholarships and fellowships. That is why she joined the Africademics Scholarship Ambassador Programme as she sees it as an opportunity to join a global community of scholarship mentors and assist other African students in acquiring tools and knowledge to find and apply for scholarships and fellowships.
Upenyu would also like to use her position as a lecturer to reach many students, mentor them and share funding opportunities. In 10 years Upenyu plans to be a PhD graduate and hopes to have expanded her research career even further. An interesting fact about Upenyu is that she likes travelling and cooking.
Welcome to the Africademics Ambassador Programme, Upenyu!
The Scholarship Ambassador Programme
Through the Scholarship Ambassador Programme Africademics trains volunteers from across Africa to become scholarship advisors and mentors. Ambassadors complete a 4-month online course with virtual lectures, case studies and additional activities. Once they have successfully graduated, our Scholarship Ambassadors offer personal support, advice and mentorship for scholarship seekers and applicants in and from Africa.
Our 2022 Ambassador cohort started their training in April 2022 and we are thrilled to have over 90 students and scholars from across the African continent on board this year. In 2021, we welcomed our first cohort of 30 Scholarship Ambassadors who completed their training in November 2021. They now offer free scholarship consultations, mentorship and application assistance for scholarship seekers in and from Africa on a regular basis.
Meet our team of Scholarship Ambassadors here and let us know via our contact form if you would like to book a personal consultation with one of them!
