Ruth Ngadze from Zimabawe is an African Foods researcher at Wageningen University in the Netherlands, where she previously completed her PhD in Food Quality & Design, as well as her Master’s degree in Food Quality Management. She received NUFFIC scholarships for both her Master’s degree and her PhD research.
Ruth is a member and mentor at the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) and has a lot of previous mentoring experience, especially with women in STEM disciplines.
She decided to join the Africademics Scholarship Ambassador Programme to widen her mentorship reach and because she would like to return the help she has received during her studies. In her current Postdoctoral position, she searches and scouts for graduate talent that can join her department under the African Foods initiative, thus creating a link and being the connection between European and African scholarships and networks.
In 10 years’ time, Ruth hopes to be a world-renowned scientist in her field, extend her expertise beyond continental borders and work closely with private and public institutions in solving important nutrition problems. She also intends to extend her mentorship skills by mentoring at least more than 100 academics and champions of industry.
Something people might not know about Ruth is that she is able to swim, but can only do backstroke.
Welcome to the Africademics Ambassador Programme, Ruth!
The Scholarship Ambassador Programme
Through the Scholarship Ambassador Programme Africademics trains volunteers from across Africa to become scholarship advisors and mentors. Ambassadors complete a 4-month online course with virtual lectures, case studies and additional activities. Once they have successfully graduated, our Scholarship Ambassadors offer personal support, advice and mentorship for scholarship seekers and applicants in and from Africa.
Our 2022 Ambassador cohort started their training in April 2022 and we are thrilled to have over 90 students and scholars from across the African continent on board this year. In 2021, we welcomed our first cohort of 30 Scholarship Ambassadors who completed their training in November 2021. They now offer free scholarship consultations, mentorship and application assistance for scholarship seekers in and from Africa on a regular basis.
Meet our team of Scholarship Ambassadors here and let us know via our contact form if you would like to book a personal consultation with one of them!
