Zikhona Tywabi-Ngeva, is a Physical Chemistry lecturer and researcher at the Department of Chemistry at Nelson Mandela University in South Africa. She graduated with a PhD in Chemistry from the Durban University of Technology and recently also received a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education from the University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.
During her studies, Zikhona received a National Research Foundation Scholarship, as well as the Fisheries and Forestry scholarship from the South African Department of Agriculture.
Zikhona is also the founder of Dr ZTN Foundation NPC, which was established in 2018. The foundation acts as a guide for youth seeking advice and help with finding out about employment opportunities and bursary/scholarship opportunities, and offers formal skills-building sessions on career guidance. The foundation also takes up initiatives to expose youth to social issues and to create a movement of change-makers in the communities in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa.
Zikhona decided to join the Africademics Scholarship Ambassador Programme because she believes it will assist her in her journey in mentoring the youth from disadvantaged backgrounds, both through Africademics and through her registered NPC.
In 10 years’ time, Zikhona sees herself owning a successful smart technology waste company that will solve the environmental waste concerns we are currently faced with in South Africa, as well as publishing her research work in high-impact factor journals.
Welcome to the Africademics Ambassador Programme, Zikhona!
The Scholarship Ambassador Programme
Through the Scholarship Ambassador Programme Africademics trains volunteers from across Africa to become scholarship advisors and mentors. Ambassadors complete a 4-month online course with virtual lectures, case studies and additional activities. Once they have successfully graduated, our Scholarship Ambassadors offer personal support, advice and mentorship for scholarship seekers and applicants in and from Africa.
Our 2022 Ambassador cohort started their training in April 2022 and we are thrilled to have over 90 students and scholars from across the African continent on board this year. In 2021, we welcomed our first cohort of 30 Scholarship Ambassadors who completed their training in November 2021. They now offer free scholarship consultations, mentorship and application assistance for scholarship seekers in and from Africa on a regular basis.
Meet our team of Scholarship Ambassadors here and let us know via our contact form if you would like to book a personal consultation with one of them!
